# Chapter 11 “*They still moving*?” Arden signed to Corinne. "*Loading up, 100 or so of them.*” Arden nodded. The strange group of young men and women had slowly been making their way through Statham for a week now. Most wore armor and steel weapons. *They aren't Amish but they seem oddly behind in the meta.* Both Arden and Corinne had seen odd things from this group, running faster than one should, Water acting funny, and Corinne had even seen a ball of light thrown from one. As if on queue, Corinne signed, “*Such odd people. I know I’ve brought it up alot.*” “*Quite.*” Arden smiled. *It’s true though.* Arden and her companion waited a short while, then after the group was out of sight, they loaded up into an electric car they’d stolen. Scrap hopped into the back seat, but refused to sit down, preferring to stand the entire time in the car. Corinne shifted into drive, and followed the group at a distance. There were few in the group over 25, and just a handful of children. They had no pets, no elderly, and a ton of scars. One of the weirder things was how they collected every bit of that metal hail they could. Arden didnt see a point in that. It felt like aluminum or steel. “*I just got an idea.*” Corinne signed, turning to her. “*What if we blended in to the convoy?”* A very Corinne idea. Arden did give it some thought, but ultimately dismissed it. “*Someone is bound to find us out. If they stop or something. I don't wanna chance it*.” Corinne nodded, “*Good thing we are in an EV. It's quiet*.” The duo had spent most of their time within the city itself fending off hoards and looking for other people, but had explored to the north, south, and west. The east lead to Athens, a city only slightly larger than Statham. During the war it had suffered greatly from the northern Blitz, as did many large cities in Dixie. Arden felt blessed by whoever looked down from above, they hadn't dealt with Slackjaws in at least 3 days. The caravan rounded a corner, one which neither of the girls had gone around. The convoy then topped a hill, and disappeared beyond sight. They were now at the eastern edge of Statham, before the short trip toward Athens. *Holy shit.* Corinne reversed back down the hill, “*What the hell happened?*” They crested the hill again, staying out of sight of the group ahead, but close enough to see what lay ahead. Miles of cars and trucks. Traffic in all directions. *I guess the downed log truck saved Statham.* Logs covered the highway, several cars crushed, and the truck itself lay on its side. *Wow.* “*They look to be heading to atlanta.*” Arden commented. “*And all the other interstates. Also thats where all the Slackjaws are.*” Corinne was dead right. The dead roamed around in hoardes through the traffic. Logistically it would be hard to tail the group without either a vehicle or a calm environment, with the dead around it would be very dangerous. *Couldn't be too hard to fit in a group lile that could it?* They hadnt seen the young group acting violent or anything of the sort. “*I think It's time we join a group.*” Arden signed to Corinne, she froze. “*What?*” “*We cant very well tail without a vehicle. It would be a ludacris risk.*"
